Mechatronic magneto-mechanical transmission systems

Magnetic gears are an emerging and intensively developing technology that will become increasingly popular in the life applications and industrial sector devices as an analog for mechanical transmissions. They represent magneto-mechanical systems converting a rotational or translational movement without direct mechanical contact. This defines some of the advantages of magneto-mechanical transmission systems such as: lack of mechanical losses, friction, impact and vibration. Also, the transmission design does not require almost any maintenance and lubrication of the rotating parts. Such devices have an improved reliability, natural overload protection, lower static and dynamic requirements for bearing supports, allowing wide control range, while maintaining high operational performance. These advantages determine significantly increased energy efficiency of the magneto-mechanical transmission systems. The massive application and efficient operation of these transmission systems will become possible only at the new emerging level of technology. The planned applications are in wind power systems, electric vehicles, electric drives and electric transport, natural resources extraction, power engineering, various electromechanical systems, etc.
